Background
Palma Verde Food Industry A.S. has been operating since 2009 and was set up with the objective of collecting, storing, benefitting and exporting canned palm heart to Argentina.
During the period 2015 and 2016, in response to a global crisis in the palm heart industry, the company expands the range of canned products through the development of new product lines such as pineapple, quinoa with beans and pineapple with quinoa. As a result, the company changed its business model to specialize in canned products.
Currently, Palma Verde has managed to diversify its markets to incorporate Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile. Furthermore, between 2016 and 2017 and for the first time, the company sold its products in the local market to reduce the effects of the contraction of the export market.
The intervention
On November 2009, IES Foundation becomes the majority shareholder of the company.
The intervention Model
IES Foundation participates in Palma Verde´s Board of Directors and, from where it supports the vision and strategic guidelines of the company.
Results
Among the most significant results over these 9 years of joint work, we highlight the following:
- The product, in its different presentations (heart of palm, slices and pieces) is extremely well regarded, not only for the excellent export standards, but also its prompt delivery service.
- The diversification of customers and markets has enabled the company to maintain sustained growth over the last few years.
